Juan Carlos Corona D’s Expertise I want to contribute my experience in analytical and experimental chemistry to apply my skills and experience in the advanced research and development of materials and structures for the next generation of equipment needed for future technological and mechanical applications. I have gained varied experience in the areas of physical sciences, chemistry, physics, mineralogy, petrology, material synthesis, analytical chemistry, thermodynamics, crystallography, synchrotron radiation experiments, and high pressure-temperature experiments, with a focus on geology. I am able to use my knowledge and expertise across a large spectrum of scientific and technological applications. I have experience using different analytical tools to classify both synthetic and natural samples. First rate knowledge on operating and maintaining a JEOL 8900 Superprobe for both imaging, via secondary electron microscopy (SEM), and chemical analyses, via energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS), and wave-length dispersive spectroscopy (WDS). I have first-rate knowledge on operating an X-ray diffractometer, which I have used to gauge which minerals are present in natural and synthetic samples, and also assess changes in structure. I have experience using Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). I have knowledge using an Ion Chromatograph (IC), and have also worked at Cornell’s High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) using high energy X-rays to see how materials change structure with pressure (Bulk Modulus); this was done using a diamond-anvil cell. I have first-rate experience using microscopes to identify materials, both synthetic and natural. I have great laboratory skills and have the ability to carefully work with materials at the microscopic level.
